Trinity Shuxian Fan

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Statistics at the University of Washington, advised by Prof. Tyler McCormick. My email is fansx (at) uw (dot) edu, and you can find my CV here.

My research focuses on integrating Bayesian methods and Inference on Predicted Data (IPD) techniques to improve the reliability of AI-driven outcomes in downstream inference, with a specific focus on cause of death (COD) prediction from narrative data. I have also been collaborating with Prof. Li Liu and Prof. Jamie Perin on studies aimed at advancing under-five child mortality (U5MR) analysis.

Prior to joining UW, I received my B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of British Columbia in 2018 and 2020, respectively. My master’s thesis, co-supervised by Prof. Jamies V. Zidek and Prof. Samuel Wong, explored the impact of knots on lumber’s tensile strength – research that aimed to inform more accurate timber grading standards.

Outside of academia, I am passionate about photography, with a particular focus on film photography. I have been capturing street photography for nearly a decade and have served as an event photographer for various concerts and hackathons.
